Marsha Njos Lehmann

Southwestern North Dakota artist Marsha Njos Lehmann...now works in oil...with a few images in pencil...her paintings are primarily of ranch life & wildlife and the rugged terrain of the badlands & prairies where she and her husband Rob raise angus cattle.

Marsha's cameras show years of wear from packing them with her everywhere since her collage classes introduced her to the camera. Documenting some changes in the rural lifestyle where she grew up and striving to capture the beauty of her favorite place on earth...the rugged sagebrush covered bluegreen pastures & badlands of the area.

The subjects in her paintings are from photos she has taken...of ranchlife, working dogs with sheep & cattle, horses working and just grassing on the prairie, the beauty of the livestock & wildlife together. The life of the ranching & farming families, the men and women and children, in their everyday working clothes...county fair, rodeos, the cattlemen...just everyday life.

Many of her paintings capture a moment in time...a boot on the bumper of an old pickup "Discussing  the Weather" a painting filled with images of bucking horses at the oldest rodeo in North Dakota at Kildeer "The Spirit of the Mountain" -(this image sold out before publishing).

Her paintings have been awarded honors from Governor's Selection, Juror's Choice, Grand Awards, PRCAA People's Choice to many People's Choice Awards including 6 Consecutive Years People's Choice Award at Prairie Skies Art Show & Auction with her childern series: Stepping Up To a Dream, Sleepyheads, Puddlejumpers, Grandma's Attic & Backyard Buddies. Her painting of Teddy was awarded several People's Choice awards as well as the Theodore Roosevelt National Park 50th Anniversary Art Show People's Choice Award. The Waltz, was chosen for the Montana Stockdog Image, Early Morning Gather another painting of a border collie chasing sheep with the dirt flying was done for the United States Border Collie Handlers Association National Sheepdog Finals in Sturgis, SD, 2005.
